
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 204

Requesting the Commissioner of the West Virginia Division of
Highways to name the Oceana Junction Bridge at the
intersection of State Route 85 and State Route 10, in Oceana,
Wyoming County, West Virginia, the "SSG Gene Arden Vance, Jr.,
Memorial Bridge."

Whereas, Gene Arden Vance, Jr., a West Virginia native, was a
1981 graduate of Oceana High School in Wyoming County; and

Whereas, The adoption of Senate Concurrent Resolution 201 by
the West Virginia Legislature during the Second Extraordinary
Session of the Seventy-Fifth Legislature honored Sgt. Vance for his
life and dedication of service and devotion to his country and
state; and

Whereas, It is altogether fitting that Gene Arden Vance, Jr.,
a national hero, be memorialized for valiantly serving to protect
his state and country and for giving his life to preserve the
freedoms enjoyed by his fellow West Virginians; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Commissioner of the West Virginia Division of
Highways is hereby requested to name the Oceana Junction Bridge at
the intersection of State Route 85 and State Route 10, at Oceana in
Wyoming County, West Virginia, the "SSG Gene Arden Vance, Jr., Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the commissioner is requested to have
made and be placed at both ends of the bridge, signs identifying
the bridge as the "SSG Gene Arden Vance, Jr., Memorial Bridge";
and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates is
hereby directed to forward a copy of this concurrent resolution to
the Secretary of Transportation, the Commissioner of the Division
of Highways, the Director of the Division of Veteran's Affairs and
to the family of SSG Gene Arden Vance, Jr.
